Coach Heather Thompson of Harrington Nominated to be U.S. Cellular Coach of the Year

Coach Heather Thompson of Harrington has made the first cut to become the U.S. Cellular Coach of the Year. The top 50 coaches from around the country have been selected and Heather is one of them. She won the first state title in Maine’s Class C Championship program while coaching the Lady Knights at Narraguagus Jr. /Sr. High School. Heather continues to be the Head Coach of the Lady Knights at Narraguagus Jr. /Sr. High School, which is also her alma mater. As a student she played basketball every season (and summer) since 4th grade at Harrington Elementary School and then played varsity basketball at Narraguagus H.S. for all 4 years. Not only did she play basketball, she also played volleyball and softball in high school. Her coaching career began at the age of 19 when she coached Pee Wee girls’ basketball at the DW Merritt Elementary School in Addison, Maine. She has also coached boys Pee Wee, Junior High School basketball (throughout the district) along with junior varsity, and varsity basketball. In addition, she has also coached softball and volleyball at Narraguagus H.S.

Coaching is not her only love. She is a dedicated wife of Frank Thompson and mother of two sons, Spencer (21) and Nathan (16). Since she was 10 years old she has been lobster fishing, first with her father and now in her own business. Today she owns and operates a successful lobster fishing business out of Harrington, Maine. She has the full allotment of 800 traps allowed under Maine guidelines. Recently she won two lobster boat races in Maine with her new lobster boat titled Gold Digger.

Heather’s great community spirit shines through because she is more than willing to help out all who ask something of her. Her can-do attitude and open heart has brought victory to the teams she has coached and the people she impacts in the community. She is loved by all she coaches.
