Women and their families in the Ellsworth area will have the opportunity to register to vote and talk about what they want and need from candidates and elected officials at an event aimed at increasing women’s participation in the 2018 election cycle.

The family-friendly voter engagement program, What’s At Stake for Maine Women, will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1:00 – 3:00 PM, at the Down East Family YMCA, Moore Community Center, Ellsworth.

Childcare will be available; and light refreshments will be served.

The program will feature a presentation on ranked- choice voting by the League of Women Voters as well as a workshop on how to have conversations about democracy and elections facilitated by community organizers from Maine Family Planning and the Maine Women’s Lobby.

According to family planning community organizer Cait Vaughan, “Too often women are divided along lines of difference which can weaken their political and social power. This event will bring women together to learn how to hold candidates and elected officials accountable for issues that are crucial to women’s lives.”

The event is hosted by the Alliance for Maine Women, a broad network of women’s organization working to ensure that all Maine women have access to the economic, social and political power to make decisions about their lives.
